Timberland Highlands Resort marks its debut in the wedding scene with the latest bridal collection by Pablo Mendez III

A new 'I Do' destination rises

High above the city, where cool mountain air meets expansive sunset views, Timberland Highlands Resort in San Mateo, Rizal, offered a fresh perspective on modern weddings with “Weddings in the Highlands,” its first-ever wedding showcase held last December. Anchoring the event was Pablo Mendez III’s 2026 wedding collection, a presentation that doubled as both a fashion forecast and a statement on how destination weddings are redefining bridal style.
For Pablo, the venue itself became the starting point. The designer shared that the setting inspired him to highlight an alternative wedding destination to the usual Tagaytay route, one that offers a majestic metropolis sunset view without the congestion. This idea shaped a collection designed not for tradition’s sake, but for couples who choose their wedding locations as deliberately as their vows.
“My collection has varied designs to cater to the needs of every type of couple,” Pablo told Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “The design should consider a lot of factors, including the venue, time, and vibe, depending on the mood and vision of the bride.”

The 20-piece collection explored a wide range of silhouettes, textures, and moods. Rather than following conventional bridal formulas, the gowns reflected a more relaxed and expressive approach to dressing. Pablo explained that the designs were meant for non-traditional, adventurous couples who prefer celebrations that feel unique and personal. Bold, playful elements replaced rigid norms, mirroring a broader shift in how couples view weddings today.
Customization emerged as a central theme of the collection. He noted that his designs change depending on the wedding location and atmosphere, pointing out how a mountain setting calls for a different approach compared to a beach or ballroom. This adaptability, he added, reflects how client tastes have evolved, with more brides seeking gowns that feel original rather than prescribed.
This philosophy found a natural partner in Timberland Highlands Resort. Long considered a secluded escape, the property officially introduced its wedding offerings to the public through this showcase. Operated by Chroma Hospitality—the group behind Crimson and Quest Hotels—the resort marked an important milestone with “Weddings in the Highlands,” presenting itself as a distinctive destination for intimate and refined celebrations.
“This is our first wedding event here in Timberland Highlands Resort,” said Carmela Bocanegra, vice president for Sales and Marketing of Chroma Hospitality. Opened in 2019, the property was formerly a sports clubhouse and now operates as a 70-room boutique hotel.
“It’s open to the public now. It’s a hotel,” she added, emphasizing its accessibility to non-members and weekend guests.
Located roughly 45 minutes from Makati and close to Quezon City, Timberland Highlands offers the feel of a destination wedding without the long drive. Carmela described it as “the Tagaytay of the North or the West,” citing its cool weather, elevated location, and sweeping views. “You can see a fantastic view of the lights of Antipolo,” she said, noting how the backdrop became central to the wedding show’s visual narrative.
Beyond scenery, the resort highlighted its versatility for celebrations. “We have a ballroom. We have meeting rooms which are covered,” she explained, adding that the property always prepares backup venues in case of rain. Wedding packages range from intimate gatherings to larger celebrations, with options that can be tailored to a couple’s needs. “We have intimate packages, and we also tailor-make a lot of wedding packages depending on the client’s requirements.”
Despite its polished atmosphere, she is clear about the resort’s positioning. “Timberland is not a luxury hotel,” she said. “It’s a mid-boutique hotel here in Rizal, and it’s very affordable.”
Together, Pablo Mendez III’s 2026 wedding collection and Timberland Highlands Resort presented a shared vision of modern weddings, one that is less about spectacle and more about intention. As the showcase suggested, the future of weddings lies in meaningful design, thoughtfully chosen destinations, and celebrations that reflect both place and personality.
