Several weather systems will continue to affect large parts of the country this week, bringing cloudy skies and scattered rains over the Visayas, parts of Luzon, and Mindanao starting Monday, January 5.
In its latest weather forecast, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said the shear line is expected to affect the Visayas and the eastern section of Southern Luzon, while the Northeast Monsoon, locally known as "amihan," will influence most of Luzon.
Meanwhile, easterlies will bring rain showers over parts of Mindanao, according to PAGASA’s latest weather outlook.
Weather forecast for January 5
PAGASA said areas in the Visayas, Bicol Region, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Marinduque, and Romblon will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms due to the shear line.
Residents in these areas are advised to remain alert for possible flash floods or landslides, especially during periods of moderate to heavy rainfall.
The Zamboanga Peninsula, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, and Palawan will also have cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms caused by easterlies, with similar risks of flooding and landslides.
Meanwhile, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Cagayan Valley, Aurora, Laguna, Batangas, and the rest of MIMAROPA are forecast to have cloudy skies with light rains due to the Northeast Monsoon, with no significant weather impacts expected.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will see partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains, also influenced by the Northeast Monsoon.
In the rest of Mindanao, weather conditions will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to easterlies. Localized flooding or landslides may occur during severe thunderstorms.
Outlook: January 6 to 9
From Tuesday to Friday, January 6 to 9, PAGASA said the shear line will continue to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over the Visayas, Bicol Region, and MIMAROPA.
At the same time, Batanes, Cagayan, Apayao, Isabela, Aurora, and Quezon are expected to experience cloudy skies with rains as the Northeast Monsoon persists.
Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will continue to have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with light rains, while the rest of the country is expected to experience generally fair weather, with localized rain showers or thunderstorms.
The state weather bureau reminded the public, particularly those in flood- and landslide-prone areas, to stay updated with weather advisories and take the necessary precautions during periods of heavy rainfall.
