Off-duty PCG member saves drowning child in Zamboanga City
ZAMBOANGA CITY – An off-duty member of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), demonstrating exceptional heroism and professionalism, saved an eight-year-old child from drowning in a resort here on Sunday evening.
In a statement Monday, the PCG said that Petty Officer 3 (PO3) Al-Shier Alimuddin of Coast Guard Sub-Station Siasi was attending a family gathering in a resort in Barangay Cabatangan when he was alerted around 8:36 p.m. that a child drowned in the swimming pool.
The PCG said that Alimuddin promptly rushed to the swimming pool and found the child unresponsive.
Alimuddin, who has undergone Basic Life Support training, immediately administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) to the child.
“Through his swift response and proper life-saving intervention, the child’s vital signs and pulse were restored,” the PCG said in a statement.
The child was taken to a hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
The PCG lauded Alimuddin for the timely and selfless actions he demonstrated even while off duty, underscoring the PCG’s enduring commitment to preserving life and public safety.
Alimuddin cannot be reached for comment on his heroic action. (PNA)
