Police reported that the New Year celebration in Davao City was generally peaceful, orderly, and prosperous.
Zero firecracker-related injuries and stray bullet incidents were recorded, following official monitoring and coordination with hospitals.
Acting Davao City Police Office Director Police Col. Mannan Caracas Muarip attributed the outcome to the strict enforcement of the city’s firecracker ban, increased police visibility, proactive policing, and sustained public information campaigns before and during the holidays.
Police nabbed several individuals for violating the firecracker ban. Violators are now facing charges before the City Prosecutors’ Office, which Muarip said show that the city government will not compromise public safety.
Muarip stated that the New Year security operations were guided by the DAVAO (Discipline, Action, Virtue, Accountability, and Order) framework, which served as the basis for planning, deployment, and execution of security measures throughout the city.
Muarip credited the outcome to strong collaboration among the community, barangay officials, and the local government, noting that public discipline and cooperation played a key role in preventing injuries and accidents.
Meanwhile, the DCPO reported multiple accomplishments in its anti-criminality campaign last month.
Police conducted 139 anti-illegal drug operations, resulting in the arrest of 171 individuals and the seizure of illegal drugs valued at more than P1.47 million. A total of 176 drug-related cases were filed in court.
Authorities carried out 41 anti-illegal gambling operations, arresting 49 individuals and confiscating P12,930 in bet money, leading to the filing of 40 cases.
Search operations resulted in the arrest of 128 wanted individuals, including 63 most wanted persons. In addition, 21 operations against loose firearms resulted in the arrest of 16 individuals, the confiscation of 14 firearms, and the voluntary surrender or safekeeping of 13 others under “Oplan: Katok.”
Muarip said these efforts were aligned with the directives of the Philippine National Police leadership and the Police Regional Office-11, ensuring unified command and operational readiness.
He assured the public that crime prevention and law enforcement initiatives will be sustained and intensified, emphasizing continued partnership with the local government and the community.
“We will not relent. Our commitment remains steadfast –to serve with honor, enforce the law without fear or favor, and ensure that Davao City remains a safe, peaceful, and orderly place for all,” Muarip said.
He urged residents to maintain cooperation and vigilance as authorities work to preserve peace and order throughout the city.
The DCPO reported a significant decline in index crimes in 2025 compared to 2024.
Index crimes decreased by 23.25 percent or 166 cases from 708 in 2024 to 542 in 2025.
Significant decreases were recorded in theft, rape, and robbery cases, which police attributed to intensified operations, intelligence-driven policing, and increased police visibility across the city.
“This substantial reduction in crime is the result of disciplined execution, swift and decisive action, and accountable leadership,” Muarip said, adding that all police units were instructed to uphold professionalism and vigilance in safeguarding communities.
Muarip said these gains were reinforced through focused operational plans, regular patrols, targeted law-enforcement interventions, and close coordination with barangay officials, force multipliers, community stakeholders, and the city government.
