Miss International 1979 Melanie Marquez breaks silence on her husband's abuse, reveals being placed in mental facility

Former Miss International-turned-actress Melanie Marquez revealed that she allegedly suffered abuse from her husband, Randy "Adam" Lawyer, during their 25-year marriage.

"I've been very patient. When I got married, I wanted this marriage to last. I'm going to work very hard. Dream ko talagang magkaroon ng pamilya. But along the way, marami na siyang verbal abuse. Iniinsulto na niya ako emotionally, financially, and mentally," said Marquez during an appearance on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda on GMA Network.
"Magaling siyang magsalita. Palibhasa in love ako. Nagugulat ako na nakaka-receive ako ng subpoena. Idedemanda ako. Sabi ko, 'How come I have this case?' Tapos sasabihin sa akin, 'You're the one being sued not me.' But this is your business not mine. So do something about it," Melanie also said.
In November 2025, Melanie said she wrote the Bureau of Immigration requesting the cancellation of her husband's visa so that he would also be included in the Black List.
Marquez, 61, said one of her husband's businesses is a call center. The call center, she added, started in her home. "But I never stepped into that company."
She recalled working for her husband's farm in the US, where she later suffered a miscarriage.
Citing a letter from the BI, Abunda said Marquez stated that her husband allegedly punched her in the ear while she was sleeping in 2022. She added that her husband reportedly threatened her with a gun. "He told me to do something for him. He wants me to solve the problem in Davao. He doesn't know what to do with it."
Asked why her husband punched her, Marquez said, "Hindi ko alam. Natutulog ako. Magkatabi kami. Akala ko napanaginipan ko na may sumuntok sa akin. Tapos nakatingin siya sa akin. Then I sat down on the edge of the bed. Then sinipa ko siya para mahulog sa kama. Sabi ko, 'Why did you punch me?' Napikon ako at pumunta ako sa pulis." Then she went to a hospital to request for a medical certificate for her police complaint.
In October 2025, Marquez reported another instance of physical abuse by her husband. This time, while they were inside a car. 
Mental hospital
Marquez also revealed that she was allegedly abducted and brought to a mental hospital on July 22, 2022. 
"In-abduct ako. I was kidnapped against my will. I was judged. Nobody talked to me. I cannot talk to anyone," Marquez said. She did not reveal who abducted her. 
Marquez added, "My phone got hacked, and it's on my birthday. Nawala ako, inilagay ako sa mental hospital, thinking sira ang ulo ko when in fact I am taking care of my two boys. In-abduct nila ako. In-injection-an nila ako. I cannot move."
"Iniwan ako sa (mental) facility. Tinatawag ko sila, 'Bakit ako naiwan dito?' Hindi ko alam na mental hospital yun. Dinala ako sa fourth floor. Itinali nila ako. Sabi ko, 'Bakit ninyo ako itinali? Hindi naman ako nagwawala? Mandatory daw. Kinabukasan, sabi ko, 'Nasaan ako?' Mental Hospital.' Saan? 'Pasig,' " she narrated. Watch the full interview:
