Manila City Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno" Domagoso expressed optimism for a more prosperous 2026 as he delivered his New Year's message during the city’s first flag raising ceremony at Manila City Hall on Monday, January 5.
Domagoso said the city government is entering the new year with renewed hope after overcoming a series of economic challenges in 2025 that tested both the local government and its workforce.
“Today, I am still grateful to God. Salamat sa Diyos na naitawid natin ang 2025 (Thank God we were able to get through 2025), but I’m hopeful that 2026 will bring prosperity to the people of Manila and to our city government,” Domagoso said.
Acknowledging the fiscal difficulties faced by the city last year, Domagoso vowed to maintain disciplined and effective spending to help stabilize the city's finances.
“Pipilitin nating maging masinop at maging epektibo sa paggasta (We will strive to be prudent and effective in spending),” he said.
Domagoso assured city government employees that his administration would continue to prioritize responsible fiscal management, stressing that faith, unity, and hard work would be crucial as the city faces both challenges and opportunities in the year ahead.
“Kailangan lang tayong maniwala, gawin natin ang ating makakaya, at ang Diyos na ang bahala (We just need to believe, do our best, and God will take care of the rest),” Domagoso said.
The mayor reminded city government workers that public service exists because of the trust and sacrifices of taxpayers, urging them to serve with humility, integrity, and compassion.
Calling on employees to remain healthy and cooperative, Domagoso asked them to join him in praying for a safe, progressive, and peaceful Manila in 2026.
“Kung wala ang mamamayan, wala tayo. Ang ating pag-iral ay dahil sa kanila. Umaasa at nananalangin ako para sa isang ligtas, progresibo, at mapayapang lungsod (Without the people, there is no us. I am hoping and praying for a safe, progressive, and peaceful city).”
