LAMASAN
ILOILO CITY – The Police Regional Office-6 and the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) have urged the public to stop speculating over the death of Duenas, Iloilo Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan.
“PRO-6 appeals to the public to refrain from speculation and to allow investigators to perform their duties without prejudice. Verified information will be released through official channels as it becomes available,” said PRO-6 chief Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan.
“We respectfully urge everyone to refrain from making statements, speculations, or spreading information that are not based on verified facts, as these may cause unnecessary pain, trauma, and distress to the grieving family,” added ICPO chief Police Col. Kim Legada.
They issued the statement after Cavite Rep. Kiko Barzaga wrongfully linked Lamasan’s death to the flood control project in a Jan. 2 video message.
“Matters involving flood control anomalies fall under the jurisdiction of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure (ICI), the agency vested with authority over such concerns,” said Police Major Shella Mae Sangrines, ICPO spokesperson.
Police released the statements as questions on how Lamasan died lingered.
Police said Lamasan died last Dec. 30 after she allegedly shot herself while preparing to leave her house.
This information was provided by Lord Byron Torrecarion, her live-in partner and Land Transportation Office (LTO) official.
After her death last Dec. 31, police requested a paraffin test for Torreracion and an autopsy of her body.
A thorough investigation is underway with the creation of Special Investigation Team (SIT) Lamasan.
