Magnitude 5.3 quake strikes offshore near Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake struck offshore waters southeast of Jose Abad Santos, Davao Occidental early Saturday morning, Jan. 4, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its Earthquake Information No. 1, the agency said the tremor occurred at 7:13 a.m.
Phivolcs said the earthquake struck approximately 286 kilometers southeast of Jose Abad Santos in Davao Occidental.
The agency said the earthquake had a depth of 10 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.
Phivolcs said no damage is expected, but warned that aftershocks may follow the earthquake.
