7 hurt in Ilocos Sur mishap

CERVANTES, Ilocos Sur – Seven passengers were injured in an accident near the historic Bessang Pass in Barangay Malaya, this town, on Saturday, Jan. 3.
Police Capt. Oliver Sari, chief of police of Cervantes, said the accident occurred at around 4:30 p.m.
Investigation said a jeepney with 23 passengers and driven by a 62-year-old man was on its way home to Bauko, Mountain Province, after an excursion in Ilocos Sur when upon reaching a downhill curve, the vehicle allegedly experienced a brake malfunction.
The driver reportedly steered the vehicle towards the mountainside to a more serious accident.
The jeepney swerved and stumbled on the road and seven passengers were injured.
Rescue personnel took the injured to the Ilocos Sur District Hospital in Cervantes. They are in stable condition. Their co-passengers were unharmed.
Police said the jeepney sustained damage with cost of repair yet to be determined.
Investigation is ongoing to establish the exact cause of the accident.
