Team Philippines got off to a strong start but eventually succumbed to host Hong Kong, 1-3, to settle for silver in the women’s U18 event of the Hong Kong Elite Youth International Ice Hockey Tournament at DB Ice Rink recently.
The Filipina bets displayed stellar showing in the first period where they leveled the match at 1-all off Malea Viola’s goal, but failed to sustain their charge as Hong Kong posted scored in the next two frames to win the title.
Prior to the runner-up feat, the Filipinas bested Hong Kong in the eliminations, 5-3, then followed it up with a 5-1 triumph over Thailand.
Meanwhile, the PH U18 boys squad fell short to a podium finish after yielding a 4-5 overtime loss to Thailand.
Seizing a 4-3 cushion in the third canto, the Filipinos lost their grip of momentum with the Thais finding a way to force an extra time where they also hit the dagger goal at the 2:26 mark.
It was a painful setback for the U18 Boys as they outlasted Thailand in the elims off an 8-5 win to bounce back from their 3-7 loss to Hong Kong.
