BARZAGA and LAMASAN
ILOILO CITY – Suspended Cavite fourth district Rep. Kiko Barzaga linked the death of Dueñas, Iloilo Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan to the flood control scandal.
Barzaga urged an investigation on the death of Lamasan in a 50-second video in his Facebook page on Friday, Jan. 2.
“The timing and nature of Vice Mayor Lamasan’s death are highly suspicious and an investigation must be conducted to determine whether her death was connected to her knowledge of flood control anomalies in the province of Iloilo. That will be all. Happy New Year,” Barzaga said.
The 49-year-old Lamasan died on Dec. 31, a day after an alleged accidental firing incident on Dec. 30.
Police have requested an autopsy on the vice mayor’s body as well as paraffin test on Lord Byron Torrecarion of the Land Transportation Office (LTO).
Torrecarion was with Lamasan when the incident occurred and was the one who told police the vice mayor accidentally shot herself.
Barzaga doubled down on his claim linking Lamasan to personalities of Iloilo province’s flood control scandal.
He mentioned the names of House Senior Deputy Majority Leader Lorenz Defensor of the Iloilo third district, Rep. Janette Garin of Iloilo first district, and daughter Provincial Board Member Rica Jane Garin.
“They are being investigated for involvement in massive corruption in our country,” Barzaga said.
Ilonggos called out Barzaga and noted there is no connection between the death of Lamasan and flood control projects.
“The municipality of Dueñas is not even in the district of Defensor and Garin. Don’t link something that you don’t have any evidence,” wrote Florence E.
“He’s been suspended because of wrongdoing, but he continues peddling lies,” wrote Agustin C.
