35 injured by firecrackers in Cordillera; 45 in Ilocos

BAGUIO CITY – The Department of Health-Cordillera recorded 35 fireworks-related injuries in the region as of 6 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 2.
Kalinga has 15, followed by Apayao with 10, Abra and Baguio City with four each, and Benguet two.
Thirty-three were males and two were females.
No case was recorded in Ifugao and Mountain Province.
The DOH said most of the injuries were caused by Kwitis with 10; Boga and Five Star with four each; Dynamite and Whistle Bomb with three each; Luces and Pla-Pla with two each; and Judas Belt with one.
Ilocos region
DAGUPAN CITY – The Police Regional Office-1 reported that 45 individuals were injured by firecrackers in the Ilocos region as of Thursday, Jan. 1.
Pangasinan recorded 19, Ilocos Sur, 18; La Union, six, and Ilocos Norte, two.
In Pangasinan, two individuals were treated for firecracker-related injuries. The youngest victim was three and the oldest was 45.
The Region 1 Medical Center (RIMC) in Dagupan City said about 11 patients treated in the hospital on New Year’s Eve.
The number of cases may increase as the police and Department of Health continue to monitor firecracker-related incidents until Jan. 6.
