Cagayan Valley
CAMP MARCELO A. ADDURU, Tuguegarao City, Cagayan – The Cagayan Valley region welcomed the New Year safely and peacefully as the Police Regional Office-2 reported zero recorded stray bullet incidents and a 50 percent decrease in firecracker-related incidents during the New Year’s Eve celebration.
Police Brig. Gen. Antonio P. Marallag Jr., PRO-2 director, said the achievement was the result of intensified operations against illegal firecrackers, strict enforcement of police checkpoints, adequate deployment of personnel, and continuous public reminders on safer ways to celebrate the New Year.
He said police operations conducted before and during New Year’s Eve led to the confiscation of various prohibited firecrackers and the arrest of several violators, in line with directives from the Philippine National Police (PNP) national headquarters.
Marallag commended the cooperation of local government units and residents who complied with safety guidelines. He noted that social media campaigns and community-based information drives warning the public about the dangers of firecrackers and indiscriminate gunfire significantly contributed to the peaceful celebration.
The absence of stray bullet incidents, he added, reflects improved public discipline and heightened community awareness.
PRO-2 reminded the public to observe safety not only during New Year celebrations but in all festivities.
