Some minors injured in Rizal due to misfired firecrackers
Around 20 individuals, including a three-year-old child, were injured in Rizal due to misfired and exploding firecrackers, mostly kwitis and fountain types, during New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day, the Rizal Police Provincial Office (Rizal PPO) said.
As of Friday morning, Jan. 2, the Rizal PPO reported that the victims included nine minors and 11 adults, who sustained injuries from various firecrackers, such as kwitis, lusis, fountain, 5-star, Roman candle, piccolo, and boga.
In Binangonan, seven individuals, including four minors, were injured between Dec. 31 and Jan. 1. Most were hit by misfired Kwitis, while others sustained burns from unexpected explosions on their hands, fingers, legs, abdomen, and neck.
In Angono, seven individuals, including three minors, were injured on Jan. 1. Some were watching fireworks displays, while others were walking along the streets when the incidents occurred.
The victims were injured when Kwitis and fountain-type firecrackers suddenly exploded or misfired near them, causing burns to their arms, shoulders, hands, and legs.
Among the injured was a three-year-old child, who was hit when a fountain-type firecracker suddenly exploded near them while watching the fireworks display in Sitio Pinagpala, Barangay Kalayaan. The child sustained minor burns but was treated promptly and discharged in stable condition.
In San Mateo, three minors were injured from Dec. 23 to 27 due to firecracker explosions.
The first incident involved a 13-year-old boy, who sustained minor injuries from a Piccolo firecracker that exploded near him in Barangay Guinayang on Dec. 23. Another 13-year-old boy was injured after being hit by a 5-Star firecracker that unexpectedly exploded in Barangay Silangan on Dec. 24.
The third incident involved a 16-year-old boy, who sustained minor injuries when a Boga firecracker exploded in Barangay Silangan on Dec. 27.
In Cainta and Morong, six adults were injured on Jan. 1 due to firecracker explosions.
In Cainta, three individuals—a 26-year-old man, a 26-year-old woman, and a 49-year-old woman—sustained minor injuries from exploded Kwitis, affecting their right arm, left ear, and right thigh in Barangay San Andres.
Meanwhile, in Morong, three men sustained minor injuries from Kwitis, 5-Star, and fountain-type firecrackers that exploded near them. Their injuries included burns on the hands, abrasions, and first-degree burns on the arm, knee, and leg.
All victims received medical treatment and were later discharged in stable condition, except for one victim who suddenly left the hospital while undergoing treatment.
