CEBU CITY – Increased police visibility and close coordination with local government units led to a peaceful celebration of the New Year in Region 7.
Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan, chief of the Police Regional Office-Central Visayas (PRO-7), said this as he reported that no major incidents were recorded during the New Year revelry.
There were also no reports of indiscriminate firing involving uniformed personnel, Maranan said.
Even before Christmas Day and the New Year, Maranan said they intensified their campaign against the use and sale of illegal firecrackers.
“I extend my sincere appreciation to our communities, partner agencies, local government units, and our police personnel for their cooperation and vigilance. Despite minor firework related incidents, the welcoming of Year 2026 remained generally peaceful and orderly. This reflects our shared commitment to public safety and responsible celebration. May this peaceful beginning lead us toward a prosperous year ahead,” said Maranan.
Maranan was elated that no single incident of indiscriminate firing or stray bullet victim was recorded during the revelry.
Police in the region and gun owners had been sternly warned against indiscriminate firing, Maranan said.
“Our strong police presence sent a clear message that any act endangering lives will not be tolerated, and accountability will be swift and uncompromising,” Maranan added.
