LAMASAN
ILOILO CITY – Police have requested an autopsy on the body of Vice Mayor Aimee Paz Lamasan of Dueñas, Iloilo and a paraffin test on her partner.
Police Col. Kim Legada, chief of the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO), said the two requests are still pending.
Lamasan died on New Year’s Eve while being treated in a private hospital from an alleged an accidental firing incident on Dec. 30.
Legada stated the incident was “accidental” as the gun was said to have accidentally discharged while the 49-year-old lady vice mayor was preparing her things at her residence in Iloilo City.
On New Year‘s Day, Legada ordered the creation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate death of Lamasan.
“We cannot conclude right now,” Legada told Manila Bulletin on Friday, Jan. 2.
Lamasan was with her live-in partner Lord Byron Torrecarion during the incident. It was Torrecarion who told authorities that Lamasan accidentally shot herself.
“Para mawala ‘yung duda ng constituents ni Vice Mayor (To avoid doubts from the Vice Mayor’s constituents), we requested that the partner (Lamasan) undergo a paraffin test,” said Police Capt. Jeffrey Delgado, chief of the ICPO La Paz Police Station.
He said that no one from the police was able to talk directly to Lamasan as they were not allowed while she was still at the hospital.
Delgado noted that while his station called the PNP Scene-of-Crime Operations (SOCO), it was not able to do much as the crime scene was “contaminated.”
“Sad to say, the firearm that was alleged to have accidentally been discharged was already in the safety box,” Delgado said.
The firearm was turned over to police by Torrecarion and is currently undergoing ballistics examination.
