ILOILO CITY – Police said the New Year in Western Visayas region was generally peaceful.
“The safe and peaceful New Year celebration in Western Visayas reflects the discipline of our people and the dedication of our police officers who remained on duty to protect our communities,” said Police Brig. Gen. Josefino Ligan, Police Regional Office-6 chief.
No major criminal incident was recorded during the New Year in the region comprised of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, and Iloilo provinces as well as the capital of Iloilo City.
Only minor incidents were recorded. According to the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO), these were related to too much drinking and there was no major harm.
“Strategic police deployment and the strong cooperation of the Ilonggo community were the keys to these gains, ensuring that minor disputes did not escalate,” noted the IPPO.
Ligan assured that public safety will be prioritized long after the holiday season. “As we begin the New Year, we assure the public that PRO-6 will continue to maintain heightened police visibility and proactive law enforcement to sustain peace and order across the region,” Ligan added.
