DOH-Central Visayas reports fewer firecracker-related injuries
CEBU CITY – Fewer fireworks-related injuries were recorded during the holiday season in Central Visayas.
What made hospitals across the region busy was road crash injuries.
In its monitoring period from Dec. 21 to 6 a.m. on Jan. 1, the Department of Health-Central Visayas (DOH-7) logged 347 injury cases with road crash victims accounting for the majority of the cases.
Reports from sentinel and non-sentinel hospitals in the region showed 73 fireworks-related injuries and 274 road crash injuries.
The DOH-7said the number of the fireworks-related injuries during the period was eight percent lower from the 79 cases recorded in 2025.
Cebu province recorded the highest number of firecrackers-related injuries with 27, followed by Cebu City with 20, Lapu-Lapu City with 16, Bohol with nine, and Mandaue City with one.
No cases of fireworks ingestion or stray bullet injuries were recorded during the period, the DOH-7 said.
Drivers accounted for the highest number of injuries with 169, followed by rear passengers with 77, pedestrians with 20, and front passengers with eight.
The DOH-7 said 139 of the cases were classified as collision-related incidents while 135 were non-collision accidents.
