CAAP extends flight restriction around Mayon Volcano as Alert Level 2 persists

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) has extended a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) restricting flights around Mayon Volcano as volcanic unrest continues in Albay.
In an advisory, the CAAP said that NOTAM B6570/25 sets a no-fly advisory from the surface up to 11,000 feet around the volcano.
The advisory is in effect from 8:55 a.m. on Jan. 2 until 8:55 a.m. on Jan. 3.
CAAP advised pilots and airline operators to avoid flying close to Mayon to reduce risks linked to possible ash emissions and volcanic activity.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) placed Mayon Volcano under Alert Level 2 on Thursday, Jan. 1, which indicates increased to moderate unrest.
Authorities said the restriction is a precautionary measure to ensure aviation safety, especially as passenger traffic remains elevated after the New Year.
CAAP noted that sudden ash plumes can pose serious hazards to aircraft engines and visibility.
