Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) firefighters rescued a six-year-old boy from drowning in Datu Unsay, Maguindanao del Sur, it was reported on Friday, Jan. 2.
Personnel from the Datu Unsay Fire Station were conducting patrols and carrying out Oplan Paalala: Iwas Paputok activities when they received an emergency call that a young boy was drowning near Barangay Meta Bridge on Dec. 30 so a rescue operation was immediately conducted.
Upon reaching the area, Senior Fire Officer 2 Mohammad Jumuad pulled the child from the water and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) until the victim regained breathing.
The firefighters then brought the boy to the Integrated Provincial Health Office Maguindanao del Sur Hospital. Authorities said the child remains under medical care.
The BFP said the incident showed the readiness of its personnel to respond to emergencies beyond fire incidents.
The bureau reminded the public to contact the nearest fire station or dial the National Emergency Hotline 911 during emergencies.
Earlier, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) urged the public to use the Unified 911 Emergency Hotline. The agency said the hotline operates 24 hours a day for fires, accidents, and medical emergencies.
The DILG said trained responders are on standby to provide immediate assistance, and calls are assessed and relayed to the proper responders and partner agencies without delay.
