P452,000 illegal firecrackers seized in southern Metro Manila
Police in southern Metro Manila seized P452,439 worth of illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices as people welcomed the New Year on Dec. 31.
The Southern Police District (SPD) reported that 18,231 pieces of prohibited firecrackers, pyrotechnic devices, and “boga” were confiscated in areas under its jurisdiction.
As of Dec. 31, police seized the following: Muntinlupa - 9,122 items (P125,035); Taguig – 5,999 items (P45,652); Pateros - 54 items (P4,800); Pasay – 662 items (P4,930); Makati – 544 items (P18,930); Parañaque – 1,724 items (P243,650); and Las Piñas – 856 items (P9,442).
“This operation reflects SPD’s strong commitment to ensuring a safe and joyous New Year for every resident. Each firecracker and pyrotechnic device removed from the streets represents a potential accident prevented,” said Brig. Gen. Randy Arceo, SPD district director.
