Magnitude 5.1 quake hits waters east of Davao Occidental — Phivolcs

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck the waters east of Davao Occidental on Thursday morning, Jan. 1, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.
In its Earthquake Information No. 1, Phivolcs reported that the tremor occurred at 10:56 a.m.
The agency said the quake was located about 231 kilometers off the coast of Jose Abad Santos town in Davao Occidental.
The earthquake was tectonic in origin, it added.
Phivolcs noted that no damage is expected from the earthquake, but aftershocks may still occur.
