BAGUIO CITY – Two firecracker-related injuries were recorded in this city on New Year’s Eve.
A total of four persons have been injured here since Dec. 21.
Mayor Benjamin Magalong has directed the heads of police stations and barangay chairmen where the incidents occurred to submit an explanation why illegal firecrackers were smuggled into their jurisdictions.
In a report by the City Health Services Office, the latest victims were two men aged 25 and 45 who suffered first degree burns on their thighs in Barangay Irisan.
The first two victims, boys aged 11 and 12, were recorded on Dec. 21 and 22.
Firecracker-related injuries decreased by 50 percent in 2025, compared to eight in 2024.
The Baguio City Police Office reported that the New Year celebration was generally peaceful. They attributed the peaceful outcome to the strong cooperation of the community and continuous police operations.
From December to New Year’s Day, 13,528 illegal pyrotechnic devices with an estimated value of ₱118,755 were confiscated here.
The Department of Health-Cordillera recorded 22 firecracker injuries in the region from Dec. 21 to 6 a.m. on Jan. 1 – three in Abra; eight in Apayao; seven in Kalinga, and four in Baguio City.
Monitoring will continue until Jan. 4.
