DAVAO CITY – Police arrested three persons for allegedly violating the firecracker ban here during New Year’s Eve.
One of those arrested was a 50-year-old man who was caught in the act of lighting up a firework in Barangay Daliao in Toril District at 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
The Davao City Police Office released a short video of police officers rushing to the scene, where the pyrotechnic known as “Tulips” was lighted by the suspect in an open area. Police confiscated a ‘’Kwitis’’ and three “Baby Rocket” from the suspect.
Police apprehended a 31-year-old woman for selling sparklers to minors in Barangay Ula. Twelve boxes of sparklers were recovered from the suspect.
Police nabbed a 26-year-old man n Barangay Lacson after he was caught in the act of using a sparkler.
Appropriate charges are now being prepared against the suspects, according to the police.
This city government has banned firecrackers and pyrotechnics since 2002 under City Ordinance No. 060-02.
First time violators face a fine of ₱1,000 and 20 days to one month of imprisonment or both.
A second offense has a steeper penalty of ₱3,000, one to three months of imprisonment, or both.
In the third offense, violators may be fined ₱5,000, sentenced to three to six months in jail, or both.
The DCPO is investigating several videos of pyrotechnics that circulated on social media during New Year’s Eve.
