Microsoft has shut down Skype in favor of their own Teams product.
Skype first launched on August 29, 2003 and has provided a list of services that grew over the years, including video calls, messaging, calls, screen sharing, and file sharing, among others.
In May 2011, Microsoft acquired Skype, which would replace their own Live Messenger (also known as MSN Messenger).
Now, as Microsoft favors users to use Teams, they have shut down Skype. Teams have a stronger connection to Microsoft’s ecosystem, especially Microsoft 365 integrations.
If, somehow, you still have a Skype account, migration to Teams is as easy as signing in with your old credentials.
Of course, alternatives to Teams are here, many of which you’ve heard about, including Google Meets, Zoom, and Discord.
