In anticipation of health-related incidents requiring immediate response, the Department of Health (DOH) has raised a Code White Alert for Labor Day on Thursday, May 1.

In a statement, the DOH said the alert will be in effect from May 1 to May 2.
“By order of President Marcos, the DOH is on standby during times like the Labor Day observance for the health of every citizen,” said Secretary Teodoro J. Herbosa.
This heightened state of preparedness ensures that hospitals across the Philippines are ready to respond to any medical emergencies during the holiday.
What Is a Code White Alert?
A DOH Code White Alert signals hospitals to activate their Operations Centers (OPCENs) to ensure seamless coordination with regional and central DOH command centers. The alert improves hospital readiness by enabling:
- Increased availability of medicines and supplies in emergency and operating rooms, particularly for trauma cases;
- Free access to essential services, including X-ray plates and laboratory requirements; and
- Deployment of additional doctors, nurses, and emergency funding to support faster triage and patient care
Hospital preparedness for Labor Day
With large gatherings and increased travel expected during Labor Day, the DOH emphasized public safety and readiness.
Hospitals have been equipped to handle a surge in patients, ensuring that emergency services remain efficient and accessible.
The DOH also reminded the public to use its hotline 1555 for immediate medical assistance.
“The DOH and its hospitals are ready,” Herbosa said. “Just call our hotline 1555 for your needs,” he added.
Stay safe this Labor Day
As Filipinos celebrate Labor Day, the DOH encouraged everyone to remain vigilant and prioritize their health and safety.
For emergencies, contact the DOH hotline or visit the nearest hospital, where enhanced services are available to provide timely care.
