Residents in low-lying areas of Bustos, Bulacan were alarmed on Thursday, May 1, after Rubber Gate 3 of Bustos Dam collapsed at around 2:30 p.m., sparking concerns over possible flooding.

Dam operators quickly issued an advisory, assuring the public that the incident poses no serious flood risk.
An advisory sent to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) confirmed that the collapsed gate was a small section of the dam, reducing the water level by only 2.38 meters.
At the time of the incident, the dam's water stood at 17.38 meters. The collapsed gate had been resting on the dike, helping to maintain a water level of 15 meters.
Operators explained that Rubber Gate 3, measuring about five meters wide, is significantly smaller than the 20- to 30-meter-wide Angat River. As a result, only a limited amount of water was released, flowing harmlessly into the river.
Due to the dry season, water levels in the Angat River remain low and within safe limits.
Officials that the release caused only about a five-centimeter rise in river water, which returned to normal by 4 p.m.
Bulacan Governor Daniel Fernando, chair of the PDRRMC, reassured residents that there is no need for panic or evacuation, emphasizing that the situation is under control.
