Young village chair shot dead in Lanao Sur ambush

A young barangay chairman was killed and his companion was wounded in an ambush in Barangay Montay, Malabang, Lanao del Sur on Wednesday morning, April 9.

Police Lt. Col. Jopy Ventura, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region (PRO-BAR), identified the victim as Binhar Jalambre Alon Jawad, 25, chairman of Barangay Baraas, Picong, Lanao del Sur.

Investigation said Jawad and his companion, Norhan Comilao Sarip, 20, were enroute to Barangay Bacyawan, Malabang onboard a black Toyota Fortuner to attend a graduation ceremony when they were ambushed by unidentified gunmen at about 10 a.m. at the diversion road in Barangay Montay.

Jawad, who was driving, sustained multiple bullet wounds and died in a hospital. Sarip was also wounded and recovering in a hospital.

Lawmen recovered empty shells from an M16 rifle in the crime scene.

Jawad’s body has been claimed by his family and police are conducting follow-up investigation.
