Fire Insp. Marlou Abrenica, officer-in-charge of the Canlaon City Fire Station, said that a drone was deployed around 5 p.m. Tuesday to assess the fire since access to the Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is restricted due to ongoing volcanic activity.

By 9 p.m., the fire was still visible from a distance but an hour-long rainfall occurred in the area.
Abrenica said rain was not strong enough to trigger a lahar or mudflow and the fire did not spread downward towards forested or residential areas due to slow-moving winds.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology declared fire out by 9 a.m. on Wednesday, April 9.
Abrenica said they have yet to determine the full extent of the damage without a direct aerial inspection.
Attempts to assess the area on Wednesday were hindered by cloud cover.
Phivolcs said the fire was caused by superheated ballistic fragments ejected from Kanlaon’s crater during the eruption.
