Based on PAGASA's two-day forecast as of 5 p.m. on April 8, these areas are expected to record the highest heat index ranging from 42 to 44 degrees Celsius (°C).

The areas with dangerous heat indices include Dagupan City in Pangasinan (44°C); Sangley Point in Cavite City, Cavite; Virac in Catanduanes; and Caraga (43°C). Also included are Baguio City in Benguet, Iba in Zambales, Clark Airport in Pampanga, Cubi Point in Subic Bay, Olongapo City, San Ildefonso in Bulacan, TAU Camiling in Tarlac, Daet in Camarines Norte, Roxas City in Capiz, Iloilo City in Iloilo, Panglao International Airport in Bohol, Catarman in Northern Samar, Dipolog in Zamboanga del Norte, and CMU Agromet in Musuan, Bukidnon (42°C).

PAGASA explained that the heat index refers to the apparent temperature or how hot it feels due to the combined effects of actual air temperature and humidity.

According to PAGASA’s heat index classification, areas under the “Danger” level may experience heat cramps and exhaustion, with heat stroke considered “probable” with continued exposure.

Meanwhile, those in areas under the “Extreme Caution” level may experience heat cramps and heat exhaustion, and prolonged activity could lead to heat stroke.

Metro Manila, along with most parts of the country, is under the “Extreme Caution” level, with the heat index expected to range between 34°C and 41°C, according to PAGASA.

Areas with a heat index of 27°C to 32°C are classified under the “Caution” level. Individuals in these areas may experience fatigue due to prolonged exposure and activity, with continued activity potentially leading to heat cramps.

Effect of easterlies

In its weather forecast, PAGASA said that the easterlies will affect parts of the country.

The easterlies are warm winds coming from the Pacific Ocean.

Partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms are expected in Metro Manila and the rest of the country.

PAGASA also warned that flash floods or landslides due to moderate to heavy rains or severe thunderstorms are possible in affected areas.
