Actor Dennis Padilla expressed the heartbreak he experienced when his daughter Claudia Barretto walked down the aisle in Alabang, Muntinlupa City, on April 8.

In an exclusive interview with veteran entertainment journalist Ogie Diaz on April 10, Dennis recalled that his daughter Claudia was crying as she called him on the morning of her wedding to say that it might not take place.

"Sabi ko, "Why what happened?' So she was trying to control it. Noong nagsalita ako at nabasag ang boses com, umiyak. Sabi ko, 'Why are you crying? Anyway, huwag mo ng sagutin ang tanong ko. If you are not happy with it, don't do it. If you are not sure with it, then don't do it.

"Tapos napilitan siya magsalita, 'Pa, kasi, for the past one week, hindi ko nakikita yung interest ni Basti na magpakasal kami. Parang hindi siya sure. 

"Sabi ko, 'Mahirap yan. Huwag ka ng tumuloy. It's okay. People will understand. I will understand. Sabi ko, 'No. 1 you are beautiful. No. 2 you are still young; and No. 3 you are a very good human being. Don't cry and move on. Huwag ng magpakasal. Huwag ng ituloy," the actor said. 

Dennis informed his mother about his conversation with Claudia, and his mother cried. After an hour, Claudia called again, informing him that the wedding would go through.

The comedian mentioned they got busy preparing again. Dennis said he picked up his mother from Caloocan and would still travel to Alabang, where the wedding would take place. They arrived early at the church. They were so hungry that he, his mother, and his brother ate at a convenience store.

Dennis said actor-politician Richard Gomez was the first to arrive among the guests. "He congratulated me." However, Dennis started to feel excluded from the program because he didn't know where he would sit. The wedding coordinator never approached us. "Even Julia (Barretto) did not approach us."

His brother contacted the wedding coordinator about the seating arrangement for Dennis and their mother. The wedding coordinator responded: "Kahit saan naman sir pwede umupo. (You can sit anywhere you want.)"

But Dennis said the saddest part was watching his daughter walk down the aisle. Claudia married long-time boyfriend businessman Basti Lorenzo.

"Nag-o-observe na lang ako at pumapatak ang luha ko. Grabe! One of the most painful parts ng buhay ko ito," the actor said.

Dennis said he approached the wedding the coordinator. "Ano po ba ang nangyari? Di ba ako po yung father of the bride? Sinabi na lang niya, 'I know how you feel. I feel you, sir. I raised that issue sa meeting namin at sinabi lang po sa akin, 'Just follow the program I gave you.' Wala po kaming magawa."

The actor added: "Mas masaya pa siguro I was not invited na lang." He mentioned that he cried many times during the wedding, not out of happiness for his daughter's marriage, but due to the heartbreak he felt about the occasion. 

Dennis, his mom, and his brother wanted to leave in the middle of the wedding ceremony. But the wedding coordinator told him Claudia requested that they have a photo together.

"Alam ko ayaw ni Claudia yung arrangement na yun pero wala siyang magawa. Ayaw n'ya yun," the actor said. "Pakiramdam ko noong sinabi niya na hindi tuloy ang kasal ayaw na niya akong pumunta eh."

After the wedding, Dennis said: "Ayoko na. Surrender na. Finish. Tatay na lang nila ako pero bringing back the relationship wala na siguro. We can only play with the memories."

On April 8, Dennis said he was heartbroken after he went to the wedding of his daughter Claudia Barretto to Basti Lorenzo.

In capital letters, Dennis shared his heart-wrenching message on Instagram. He wrote: "GRABE KAYO!! NABUDOL NYO AKO! FATHER OF THE BRIDE NAGING VISITOR. GALING NYO!"

Claudia is the daughter of Dennis and actress Marjorie Barretto. They have two other children, Julia and Leon. Dennis and Marjorie married in 1995 but separated. Their marriage was annulled in 2009.

For years, Dennis has had an on-and-off relationship with some of his children, Julia, Claudia, and Leon.

In 2023, Dennis acknowledged that his relationship with his three children may not be smooth and that they rarely see each other. However, he remains optimistic that everything will eventually be okay. Watch the full interview:
