VP Sara reminds Filipinos: Follow traffic rules to avoid accidents
In her message for the Land Transportation Safety Month, the Vice President said that motorists, the private sector, and the government must all be obliged to keep the roads safe.
Mga kababayan, sumunod tayo sa batas-trapiko (Road safety is not the work of traffic enforcers alone… My countrymen, follow traffic rules),” she said.
Avoid using cellphones while driving or walking. Immediately report road dangers. Simple discipline has a big factor on safety),” she added.
Duterte also called on the private sector to ensure that their drivers are well-trained and their vehicles well-maintained.
Be serious about safety policies. It’s not only for your employees’ protection—but for everyone on the road),” she asked.
The Vice President reminded as well that it is the duty of the government to ensure that all infrastructures are safe, to strictly implement traffic laws, and to disseminate information about road safety.
According to the official, more than 11,000 Filipinos died in 2021 in road accidents. Most of those who died were pedestrians, motorists, bicyclists, and tricycle passengers aged 15 to 29 years old.
This Land Transportation Safety Month, let us work together for safer and better travels for all),” she said.
Duterte’s reminder came after the multiple vehicle collision at the SCTEX that killed 10 people and the incident at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) where an SUV crashed through the outer railing and onto the walkway near the Terminal 1 entrance, killing two individuals and injuring three others.
