For House Speaker Martin Romualdez, the falling unemployment rate is proof that the Marcos administration's policies are uplifting Filipinos.

Romualdez on Tuesday, April 8, welcomed the latest report from the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) which showed a continued drop in the country’s unemployment rate. He called it a positive and encouraging sign of the country’s growing economic strength.

According to the PSA’s Labor Force Survey, the country’s unemployment rate fell to 3.8 percent in February 2025, down from 4.3 percent in January. This marks its lowest level in three months with only 1.94 million Filipinos unemployed compared to 2.16 million from the previous month.

“This improvement in our labor market conditions reflects the growing strength and stability of our economy. It is proof that our policies are prudent and uplifting our people’s lives,” said Romualdez.

The leader of the 306-strong House of Representatives attributed the plunging unemployment numbers to the commitment of President Marcos to create sustainable economic opportunities for our people.

“Our President’s clear vision for economic growth is bearing fruit. We, in Congress, are ready to provide necessary legislative support aimed at strengthening investments to create more jobs and skills training to enable our workers to adapt and thrive in the rapidly evolving digital landscape,” he said.

Romualdez also cited the increase in employment to 96.2 percent in February 2025—up from 95.7 percent in January—as a notable step toward inclusive growth.

According to the PSA report the number of employed persons in February 2025 was recorded at 49.15 million. This was higher than the number of employed persons of 48.95 million in February 2024 and in January 2025 at 48.49 million.

“With 49.15 million Filipinos now employed, we are seeing progress not just in numbers but in the lives of ordinary citizens,” he added.

Romualdez also noted the significance of the decline in underemployment, which fell from 13.3 percent in January to 10.1 percent in February, equivalent to 4.96 million individuals.

“Fewer Filipinos now feel the need to look for additional work. This means better quality jobs and improved working conditions are becoming more accessible,” said the Leyte 1st district congressman.

Romualdez underscored the importance of sustaining the growth momentum.

“Let us ensure that no Filipino is left behind in this journey. We will continue to champion policies that generate jobs, uplift industries, and secure a brighter future for every Filipino family,” he concluded.
