Security tight at Mount Samat for Araw ng Kagitingan rites

CAMP OLIVAS, Pampanga â€“ The Police Regional Office-3 (Central Luzon) has tightened security at Mount Samat in Pilar, Bataan for the commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor) on Wednesday, April 9.

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. will lead the activities, including a wreath-laying ceremony at the Dambana ng Kagitingan, to honor Filipino and American World War II veterans.

The President will also deliver a speech reaffirming the government's commitment to the welfare of the Filipino veterans.

In a statement on Tuesday, PRO-3 chief Police Brig. Gen. Jean Fajardo said in anticipation of the President's attendance and large public turnout, they have activated a full deployment plan in coordination with the Armed Forces of the Philippines, local government units, and other key agencies.

Fajardo said uniformed personnel would be stationed throughout Pilar with particular focus on Mount Samat and its vicinity to manage crowd control, traffic, Very Important People protection, and emergency response.

She also said all police units across Central Luzon have been placed on full alert to ensure public safety and order throughout the observance of the national holiday.

"We are fully prepared to ensure that the public can observe this significant day in a peaceful and orderly manner," Fajardo said. "The presence of our Commander-in-Chief underscores the importance of this event, and we are ready to provide full security support."

Aside from Marcos, attendees to the event will include national and local government officials, as well as World War II veterans and their families.

The Araw ng Kagitingan commemorates the fall of Bataan to Japanese troops during the Second World War.

The ceremony will start at 8 a.m. at the Mount Samat National Shrine. (PNA)
