LPA's extension to bring scattered rains to Bicol, Southern Luzon; hot weather to persist in rest of PH
The trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) is expected to bring scattered rains over parts of Bicol Region and Southern Luzon, while the rest of the country will continue to experience hot and humid weather due to the easterlies, said the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Monday, May 5.
PAGASA weather specialist Chenel Dominguez said the LPA was located 460 kilometers west of Coron, Palawan as of 3 a.m.
The LPA is forecast to bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms over Bicol Region, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Batangas, and Quezon.
Dominguez said the weather disturbance is not expected to develop into a tropical depression as it is likely to either move away from the country or dissipate within the next few hours.
However, moderate to occasionally heavy rains may trigger flash floods or landslides in areas prone to these hazards.
Meanwhile, Dominguez said the rest of the country will continue to experience hot and humid conditions due to warm winds from the Pacific Ocean known as the easterlies.
She pointed out that isolated rain showers or thunderstorms, mostly in the afternoon or evening, may still occur as the country transitions into the rainy season.
She also said PAGASA is not expecting the formation of another LPA within the country’s area of responsibility in the coming days.
