Heat index reaches danger level in 24 areas on April 8

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that the heat index in 24 areas reached the “danger” level on Tuesday, April 8.

A heat index between 42°C and 51°C is classified as dangerous, as there is a higher likelihood of heat cramps and heat exhaustion. Prolonged exposure to such conditions can lead to heatstroke.

Based on PAGASA’s monitoring, the highest heat index recorded on Tuesday was 46°C, which occurred in Dagupan City, Pangasinan and Iloilo City, Iloilo.

Meanwhile, it reached 43°C in Sangley Point, Cavite City, Cavite; Coron, Palawan; San Jose, Occidental Mindoro; and Virac, Catanduanes.

Other areas recorded a 42°C heat index, which includes Bacnotan, La Union; Echague, Isabela; Baler, Aurora; Iba, Zambales; Cubi Pt., Subic Bay, Olongapo City, Pampanga; San Ildefonso, Bulacan; Camiling, Tarlac; Cuyo, Palawan; Juban, Sorsogon; Roxas City, Capiz; La Granja, La Carlota, Negros Occidental; Panglao International Airport, Bohol; Catarman, Northern Samar; Dipolog, Zamboanga del Norte; Zamboanga City, Zamboanga del Sur; Musuan, Bukidnon; Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur; and Butuan City, Agusan del Norte.

The heat index combines air temperature and relative humidity to estimate the apparent temperature, or how hot it feels to the human body.
