In a country where nearly 2,000 people pass away every day, according to 2023 data from the Philippine Statistics Authority, the funeral services industry in the Philippines is growing rapidly. With this rising demand comes the urgent need for more skilled professionals—especially embalmers, whose work is often overlooked but deeply vital.

Embalming is a science, a technical skill, and an act of compassion rolled into one. Yet despite the emotional and technical demands of the job, embalmers often remain behind the scenes—underappreciated and under-resourced.

One of the many challenges they face during training is the high cost of quality cosmetics—essential tools for presenting the deceased in a dignified and comforting way.

That’s where Heaven Palette comes in
Launched in partnership with the Pacific Center for Advanced Studies (PCAS) and creative agency TBWA\SMP, and amplified by celebrity makeup artist and influencer Jigs Mayuga, Heaven Palette is a groundbreaking initiative that gives aspiring embalmers access to a key but costly resource: makeup.

The concept is simple but powerful—encourage the public to donate their pre-loved or unused cosmetics to be repurposed for embalming training. This not only supports students with hands-on learning tools but also promotes sustainability by reducing cosmetic waste.

“At least hoarders like me no longer need to feel bad about letting go of old eye shadow, powder, or lipstick,” Jigs shared in a post supporting the campaign. “We now have a meaningful purpose for it.”

And it’s not just gently used makeup that’s accepted—even expired products are welcome. That’s right—you no longer have to throw away expired cosmetics. You can donate them for a cause. Some of the most-needed products include cream foundation, blush, eye makeup, and lip products.

Since launching in late February, Heaven Palette has already made a tangible impact. Donation boxes have filled up with a variety of cosmetics—some gently used, others brand new. These are sorted, sanitized, and assembled into individual “Heaven Palettes” for PCAS students, allowing them to practice cosmetic restoration techniques with quality products.
