DMW vows full assistance to OFW who lost daughter in NAIA car crash

The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) has started providing financial and other forms of necessary assistance to the family of the overseas Filipino worker (OFW) whose daughter was among those who died in the car crash at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 on Sunday, May 4.
In a statement, the DMW said medical assistance was also provided to the mother and wife of the OFW who were also injured when the black sports utility vehicle (SUV) suddenly accelerated and eventually crashed onto the main entrance of the departure area.
Based on the information obtained by the DMW, the male OFW was on his way to flight back to work when the incident happened.
Aside from the four-year old daughter of the OFW, a 28-year old man was also killed while two others were injured.
“The Department of Migrant Workers deeply mourns and grieves with a Europe-bound OFW, over the death of his four-year-old daughter due to that gruesome car-ramming incident at NAIA 1 yesterday morning,” the DMW statement read.
Aside from the Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the DMW, the New NAIA Infra Corporation (NNIC) has started providing the necessary assistance and support to the family of the OFW.
NNIC president Ramon Ang earlier vowed to shoulder all the expenses for both the fatalities and the injured victims of the car crash.
Noting the painful tragedy that struck the OFW, the DMW said it will help explain to his employer what happened.
“The Department also stands ready to assist the OFW in terms of explaining his absence from work to his current overseas employer,” the statement read.
“Finally and just as important, the Department joins the bereaved OFW and his family in their strong plea to have the perpetrator of this tragedy brought to justice,” it added.
The driver of the SUV was immediately placed under police custody and now facing criminal charges.
