Senatorial candidate Camille Villar renewed her commitment to the welfare and protection of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs), highlighting their critical role in nation-building and their contributions to the country’s economy.

Speaking before local leaders and sectoral representatives in Quezon province over the weekend, Villar shared how her family’s public service journey has long prioritized the needs of OFWs. She cited efforts such as legal aid, repatriation support, livelihood assistance, and dedicated hotlines that have been extended to Filipino workers abroad through the years.

“Our OFWs are the backbone of many Filipino families and a strong pillar of our economy. They deserve nothing less than full government support,” Villar said.

Villar, who served in the 18th Congress, was among the lawmakers who backed the passage of Republic Act No. 11641, which created the Department of Migrant Workers. The agency is tasked with overseeing the protection and welfare of OFWs across the globe.

During her visit, Villar also thanked Quezon Governor Helen Tan and other local officials for their support and for allowing her to personally connect with their constituents.

Aside from advocating for OFWs, Villar emphasized the importance of advancing rural development. She called for greater investments in agriculture and infrastructure, pointing out the need to create more opportunities in the countryside.

“Agriculture and infrastructure are key to uplifting rural communities. These are the foundations of inclusive growth,” she noted.

As a millennial leader, Villar said she hopes to bring fresh ideas and modern solutions to government. “I want to help build a better future for every Filipino—through policies that are innovative, compassionate, and grounded in real needs,” she added.
