Another lawyer will form the defense team of former president Rodrigo Duterte in the crime against humanity he is facing before the International Criminal Court (ICC).
The ICC, according to its document dated April 7, appointed Dov Jacobs to assist the defense team as associate counsel in the proceedings.
This came after the ICC Registry confirmed his appointment on April 3 that was accepted by Jacobs.
Nicholas Kaufman, British-Israeli lawyer who studied law at Cambridge University, is Duterte's lead counsel following his turnover from the Philippine government to the international court on March 12.
Currently, no Filipino is part of Duterte's defense team, but according to GMA Integrated News report, some Filipino lawyers who he refused to name, are involved in a supportive capacity.
"There are many Filipino lawyers who want to help and are helping, at the goodness of their hearts, many talented Filipino lawyers," GMA Integrated News quoted Kaufman as saying.
Former executive secretary Salvador Medialdea represented Duterte during his initial appearance on April 14, but he eventually withdrew from his role following the formation of the former president's defense team.
