K-pop group Tomorrow X Together mourns tragic incident at Axe Ceremonia in Mexico City


K-pop boy band Tomorrow X Together (TXT) offered their condolences after two people were killed when a crane collapsed at the Axe Ceremonia festival in Mexico City. 

Tomorrow X Together performed at the festival on April 5. It also featured artists such as Charli XCX, Aron, Hanumankind, Ralphie Choo, Luisa Almaguer, Simpson Ahuevo and Natanael Cano.

“We extend our deepest condolences regarding the tragic incident at the festival,” Tomorrow X Together said in a statement posted on their X account. 

They added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with the deceased, and we offer our heartfelt sympathies to their family, friends, and colleagues during this difficult time.”

As a result, the April 6 show of Axe Ceremonia was canceled. 

“Following the unfortunate incident that occurred yesterday, we inform you that it has been decided to suspend today's activities in accordance with the guidelines of the relevant authorities,” Axe Ceremonia issued a statement. 

It added, {All our solidarity and support to their families and loved ones in this painful time. Refunds will be issued automatically through Ticketmaster, which is providing updates on the process through its channels.”

The two people who were killed were photographers. 

News outlet Mr. Indie identified the photographers as Berenice Giles and Miguel Hernandez who were part of Mr. Indie. 

“With deep sadness we bid farewell to our friends, Berenice Giles and Miguel Hernández, who lost their lives while doing their journalistic work. Both were an essential part of Mr. Indie, a medium that exists thanks to the passion of people like them,” Mr. Indie said in a statement. 

It added, “From our space, we want to honor their dedication, their love for music and photography, and their commitment to this project that was also theirs. We continue to provide support and support to their families with the respect and affection that we have always had for them.” 

“Berenice and Miguel will be remembered for everything they contributed in life. Their gaze behind the lens, their sensitivity and their energy are still with us. We're in mourning,” it added. 

The office of the mayor of borough Miguel Hidalgo, where the Bicentennial Park is located, placed suspension of activities seals at the entrances of Axe Ceremonia to announce the cancellation of the show. 

It said at the time of the inspection, the cranes were not installed at the show site. It was a last-minute decision by the private organizers to install them during the Saturday concert, it added.
