The Embassy of Malaysia opened its doors to Malaysian diaspora in the Philippines and friends of Malaysia from the Philippine government, diplomatic and consular corps and business community, among others, as it celebrated this year’s Eid and the end of Ramadan.
Held on the March 31 at the Ambassador’s residence, the Aidilfitri Open House commenced with the Eid prayer, followed by a speech by Ambassador Dato’ Abdul Malik Melvin Castelino. The ambassador highlighted the importance of unity and inclusivity as he addressed the Malaysian diaspora: “Hari Raya is a time when we are reminded of the strength of unity that is deeply ingrained in our Malaysian identity. Whether Malay, Chinese, Indian, or from any other background, we come together as one big family to celebrate, just as we do in Malaysia. This unity is what makes us strong, both at home and abroad.”

He encouraged Malaysian entrepreneurs to take advantage of business opportunities to further strengthen Malaysia’s economic ties with the Philippines, young Malaysians to be proactive in various fields as they shape the future of Malaysia and the region, and Malaysians in the Philippines to serve as little ambassadors to “help foster goodwill between Malaysia and the Philippines.”
The ambassador also took the opportunity to thank the Filipino people for their warm hospitality, especially for welcoming Malaysians with open arms.

Among the Filipino guests in attendance were Budget Secretary Amenah F. Pangandaman, Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo J. Cacdac, ARTA Secretary Ernesto V. Perez, ASEAN Ladies Foundation Chairperson Mme. Pamela Louise Hunt-Manalo, Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry President Enunina V. Mangio, and Greggy and Irene Araneta.
During the celebration, guests were treated to a sumptuous feast with an array of Malaysian dishes such as satay, nasi impit, ketupat, kuah kacang, lemang, and karipap prepared by the Embassy’s officers, their spouses, and Chef Ammar Syafiq bin Ayob.
