The City Council during their regular session on Wednesday, April 2, approved a proposed amendment to City Ordinance No. 09-17-820 dated May 24, 2017 that originally set the festival’s highlight date to the fourth Sunday of October.
Councilor Em Ang, chairperson of the committee on history, culture, and arts, who proposed the schedule adjustment, explained that the change aims to avoid weather disturbances that have usually affected the festival in the recent years.
The amended ordinance stated that the fourth Sunday of October has been annually marked with rain and weather disruptions, impacting the overall experience of the festival highlights.
The new schedule will ensure better weather conditions for the safety and comfort of festival-goers, as well as the success of the festival activities, Ang said in a media interview.
The revised ordinance was co-authored by Councilors Jason Villarosa and Cindy Rojas.
The adjustment is expected to boost the festival’s tourism impact and ensure a safer and more enjoyable experience for the people.
Ang said that the move was based on public demand and consultation from the stakeholders.
