The victim, 41-year-old Rolly of San Enrique, Negros Occidental, and 32-year-old suspect Norberto, also a laborer, of Bago City, Negros Occidental figured in a commotion when Norberto confronted Rolly about his behavior towards his cousin during a drinking session in their barracks.

The suspect punched the victim and was pacified by their companion.

Police Major Elmer Bonilla, head of Police Station 4, said that the suspect went out of the barracks after the fistfight and returned holding a knife.

The suspect stabbed the victim in the armpit and back and was declared dead in a hospital.

Bonilla said the suspect fled and later surrendered to Police Station 1.

He added that the families of the suspect and victim have reached an initial settlement and Norberto  will be released from police custody.
