The Malabon City government has called on residents to take action against dengue following a rise in cases, urging them to help protect their communities from the disease.
According to the city’s Public Information Office (PIO), the initiative aims to curb the spread of dengue and safeguard public health.
Mayor Jeannie Sandoval emphasized that while dengue can be deadly, collective efforts can help prevent its spread.
She said the city government have implemented various activities and programs to intensify the campaign against dengue, a deadly but preventable disease.
Sandoval added that aside from maintaining clean surroundings, all Malabueños are encouraged to learn and practice preventive measures to stop the spread of the illness and ensure a safe, healthy community.
The City Health Department (CHD) City Epidemiology Surveillance Unit recorded 469 suspected cases, including five deaths, from Jan. 1 to March 29, prompting intensified prevention efforts.
Barangay Longos reported the highest number of cases at 115, followed by Barangay Tonsuya with 45, and Barangay Catmon with 36.
To combat the outbreak, the city has intensified mosquito fogging in high-risk areas, cleared clogged drains, and will set up the “OsMal Dengue Express Lane 24/7” at Ospital ng Malabon and “Dengue Fast Lanes” at four Super Health Centers and 17 other health centers across the city.
These facilities will ensure suspected dengue patients receive immediate medical attention. Dengue awareness lectures are also being conducted at these centers.
The city government is also holding information campaigns in both public and private schools to educate students and parents on dengue prevention and treatment.
Health workers and practitioners in the city will also visit schools and neighborhoods to teach residents how to recognize symptoms and eliminate mosquito breeding sites.
Since 2023, city government employees have regularly participated in cleanup drives in dengue-prone areas.
On Friday, they conducted clean-up activities in Celia II, Barangay Bayan-bayanan; Camia Street, Barangay Maysilo; Magsaysay Street, Barangay San Agustin; and Bronze Street, Barangay Tugatog.
The CHD urges residents to follow the 4S strategy: destroy standing water where mosquitoes breed, use protective measures, seek early medical help for fever, and support fogging efforts.
Dr. Bernadette, CHD officer-in-charge, Bordador stressed the importance of early consultation.
"Dengue is a real threat, and we must remain vigilant. Don’t ignore even a slight fever—seek medical attention immediately at the nearest health center,” she said.
City Administrator Dr. Alexander Rosete assured residents of the local government’s commitment to public health but reminded them that prevention starts at home.
"To our beloved Malabueños, personal initiative in cleaning and maintaining our surroundings should remain our top priority to prevent dengue. This goes hand in hand with our ongoing programs focused on cleanliness, eliminating mosquito breeding sites, and aiding those affected by the disease,” he said.
“Makakaasa po kayo na ang ating pamahalaang lungsod ay handang umalalay para sa kalusugan at kaligtasan ng lahat (Rest assured, your city government is ready to support the health and safety of all),” he added.
