Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas senatorial candidate Makati City Mayor Abby Binay continues to collect endorsements from officials of key local government units (LGUs) ahead of the May 12 mid-term elections.
Binay recently gained the backing of Mayor Jane Yap from Tagbilaran City, Bohol and Governor Nina Ricci Ynares and former Governor Casimiro “Ito” Ynares of Rizal province.
Binay was endorsed by the Ynares couple in a gathering of mayors, congressmen, board members and barangay chairs in Antipolo City on Thursday, April 3, a day ahead of the administration-backed Senate slate's big rally in the city.
Governor Ynares expressed her support and confidence in Binay’s qualifications. She specifically cited the 49-year-old's leadership in Makati.
"Alam naman natin kung gaano kaayos ang Makati. Alam naman namin kung gaano kayo ka-qualified dahil alam namin na kung ano ang nagawa niyo sa Makati ay gagawin niyo rin para sa ating bayan, sa Pilipinas (We know Makati is doing great. We know you are highly qualified because we know that you can replicate your achievements in Makati in the entire Philippines.)
In her message, Binay reaffirmed her commitment to champion legislation that will benefit LGUs. He emphasized the need to uplift and empower barangays and their role in governance.
"I think you need a voice in the Senate na magsasabing bigyan naman natin ng importansya at i-professionalize natin ang mga barangay dahil lagi tayong nakatutok sa mayor, lagi tayong nakatutok sa probinsya, eh bakit hindi natin tutukan iyong mga barangay? Iyon iyong basic unit na public servant sa atin," she said.
(I think you need a voice in the Senate who will push for giving importance and professionalizing barangay workers because we're always focused on the mayor, we're alwaya focused on the province, why don't we give focus on the barangay? That's the basic unit of public service for us.)
Binay also underscored her advocacy for disaster risk reduction and the welfare of rescue workers, noting that Rizal Province is particularly at risk for natural calamities.
“Especially sa Rizal, one thing that we want to push in the Senate is dapat po lahat ng DRRM employees may insurance. Dapat diyan may GSIS (All Disaster Risk Reduction Management employees must have insurance. They should enjoy benefits under the Government Service Insurance System)."
Earlier on Wednesday, April 2, Binay's Senate bid was endorsed by Mayor Yap during a caucus in Barangay Cabawan.
Binay thanked Mayor Yap and the other local officials and residents for their warm reception and support.
She vowed to push for legislation aimed at improving lives and uplifting communities.
Among the main priorities she cited at the meeting were free maintenance medicine for Filipinos, strengthening early childhood education, and empowering barangay officials through legislative reforms and innovations.
