Grind continues for Scottie Thompson

Barangay Ginebra guard Scottie Thompson was extremely honored to be part of the PBA’s 50 Greatest List.

At age 31, Thompson knew there's a lot of gas left in his tank and his grind should continue to further cement his legacy with the Gin Kings.

“Wala akong masabi, I’m totally shocked…truly blessed lang na mabigyan ng ganung opportunity sa buhay, we all know not everyone nabibigyan ng isang chance na ganun,” said Thompson during a contract signing with ArenaPlus in Bonifacio Global City Thursday, April 3.

“I think sobrang daming deserving do’n at sobrang blessed na mapasama ako sa spot na ‘yon, with that I’m still young sa career ko and I have to keep working hard pa,” he added. 

The seven-time PBA champion and 2021 MVP was included in the list alongside San Miguel’s June Mar Fajardo, with both of them the only active players in the league.

Nelson Asaytono, Jeffrey Cariaso, Bong Hawkins, Abe King, Danny Seigle, Arnie Tuadles, Manny Victorino, and Yoyoy Villamin were also honored last Wednesday and will be formally inducted next Friday, April 11.

“At alam kong marami pang opportunity na darating sa buhay ko, so not just the basketball, [but also] in life,” the pride of Padada, Davao del Sur continued.

Though still in awe about his new feat, Thompson stressed that it was a testament of his hard work on and off the court.

“I think for me, It’s a testament of my hard work, kasi kahit papano alam ko naman kung papaano ko pinaghirapan ‘yong mga ginagawa ko sa buhay, sa court,” said Thompson.

“Maraming deserving pero truly blessed lang na mapasama do’n and it’s all kay God na mapasama do’n,” he added.

Also in the event were his teammates and ArenaPlus' newest brand ambassadors Justin Brownlee and RJ Abarrientos.

The two also expressed their support to Thompson while sharing their stories of how they witnessed the latter’s work ethics.
