TACLOBAN CITY – Borongan City Mayor Jose Ivan Dayan Agda issued an executive order declaring a pork holiday from April 4 to 8 to prevent the spread of African Swine Fever (ASF).

The order states that except for personal consumption, the slaughtering of pigs is prohibited.

Public markets, supermarkets, talipapas (flea markets), meat stalls, meat shops, and roast pig stores are not allowed to sell fresh pork and lechon during this period.

The sale and distribution of frozen, raw, and cooked pork chorizo and pork longganisa (sausage) are not allowed.

It shall be permitted only if the seller presents a Certificate of Meat Inspection (COMI) and Meat Inspection Certificate (MIC) indicating that the pork was sourced from ASF-fee areas as declared by the City Veterinary Office.

Locally sourced pork is strictly prohibited while all piggery farms are directed to implement and complete massive disinfection on their respective farms during the pork holiday to prevent further contamination.

Meat inspectors will intensify their post-abattoir inspection with the assistance of law enforcement agencies.

The Borongan slaughterhouse will implement an “All in, All Out” policy when operations resume.

Pig stocking in holding pens at slaughterhouses beyond 24 hours is strictly not allowed.

Agda has directed the City Veterinary Office to establish checkpoints in Barangays Bugas and Canada prohibiting the entry and exit of live swine to and from Borongan City.

Violations may lead to confiscation of prohibited items, administrative fines, and suspension or revocation of business permits.
