LABRADOR, Pangasinan -- The crucial battle is on.
Korean Joo Dae Yeong tightened his grip of the individual general classification lead even as MPT Drivehub’s Mervin Corpuz continued to lurk behind after podium finishes in the Stage 7 individual time trial of the 2025 Tour of Luzon that started in Lingayen and ended in front of the Labrador Municipal Hall here.

The 28-year-old Gapyeong Cycling Team standout bared his fangs in the final stretch of the 15.2-kilometer race on Wednesday, April 30, timing 18 minutes and 13 seconds to finish 38 seconds behind lap winner Joseph Javiniar of Excellent Noodles (17:25).
It was enough to add 14 more seconds to his overall lead time of 17:59:37 heading to the final Stage 8 -- a tricky and challenging uphill 177.4-km course from Lingayen to Baguio City.
“I just need to keep going, because there are only two of us in the team,” said Joo, referring to the absence of his three teammates who were involved in a crash in Stage 6 last Tuesday, April 29.
Corpuz, who clocked 18:17 for third in the stage, remained unfazed despite seeing himself as Joo's closest pursuer by trailing by 2 minutes and 10 seconds.
“Pakiramdam ko bukas mas magandang laban na. Yung 100 percent na lakas na natitira, ibibigay ko na talaga,” the Pangasinan native said.
“Nakainan ako ng 14 seconds pero okay lang sakin kasi bukas sa climbing, dun na namin ibubuhos ni Jonel,” Corpuz added, referring to teammate Jonel Carcueva, who was 3:36 behind Joo at sixth.
MPT Drivehub’s team captain and veteran cyclist Santy Barnachea also trusted his riders’ capabilities in the uphill course to Baguio.
“Sabi ko sa kanila nung isang araw, gumising na sila, kasi last na bukas, wala nang bawi. Basta dun sa paahon na kami mag-o-all-out,” he said.
Also standing in the way for the title are Victoria Sports’ Nichol Pareja, who is at third with 18:02:42, followed by Standard Insurance’s Jan Paul Morales (18:02:46) and Jeremy Lizardo (18:02:51), Go for Gold’s Jerico Lucero (18:03:40), Excellent Noodles’ Mar Francis Sudario (18:03:58), 7-eleven’s Rench Michael Bondoc (18:03:58) and Standard Insurance’s Ronald Oranza (18:04:45).
Standard Insurance, meanwhile, maintained the overall team lead with 71:01:14 followed by MPT Drivehub just 32 seconds behind.
