Septuagenarian takes boy, 3, hostage

LAOAC, Pangasinan – A 76-year-old man was arrested after he held a three-year-old boy hostage in Barangay Talogtog here on Tuesday.

The suspect armed with a bladed weapon forcibly took the victim hostage while he was walking with his relative to the public market.

Police immediately set up a crisis management team to negotiate with the suspect. The suspect did not cooperate despite the confrontation.

With the help of a negotiator, the suspect was apprehended and his weapon was recovered.

The victim was rescued safely and the suspect is now in the custody of the police here.

Police said the suspect had no criminal record but he attempted to commit suicide three years ago.

Follow-up investigation is ongoing.
